GAS WATER HEATERS

When deciding what will suit your needs better, a gas water heater or an electric one, there are many things to consider. One of the advantages of gas water heaters is long-term cost savings. If your home is already fitted for a gas water heater, then installing one can result in a reduction of about 10-20 percent less energy usage. Since hot water accounts for 14-18 percent of your electric bill, this can be a considerable savings over time. However, gas water heaters can have higher-upfront costs.

Which Gas Water Heater is Right for You?

Storage Tank Heaters: This is the most common style of water heater. It’s a standard cylinder that stores water which is maintained at a constant temperature. These come in different sizes, and heating capacities. One of our certified technicians can explain how to decide what size is right for your household size and water usage. There are also three types of storage tank heaters:

  • Atmospherically Vented: These heaters must have a vent, or flu, that leads outside to release the byproducts of the gas used to heat the water.
  • Power Vented or Sealed Combustion: These heaters have self-contained units that manage the byproducts of the gas used to heat the water.
  • Condensing Tanks: A condensing tank uses a coil system, much like a refrigerator, to manage the byproducts of the gas used to heat the water.

Tankless Heaters: Tankless heaters, also called demand heating systems, are smaller units that heat water very quickly, as it is needed so there is no need for a storage tank. Gas is the best option for tankless systems because it’s more efficient for heating water quickly. These systems offer long-term savings because there is no need to maintain a reserve of constantly heated water.

Combination Space and Water Heaters: These are whole-home systems that use heated water to help warm living spaces. Choosing this type of system could replace your furnace as well as your water heater, and will require a considerable upfront investment. However, combination systems are not well-suited to all locations.

customer review

“Dependable Service Plumbing & Air sent a pressure washing company out to clean my entire driveway, when only three small spots were unintentionally put on the corner of my driveway when my neighbor was having a replacement water heater installed. Tommy, the owner of Dependable Service Plumbing & Air, came out to look at my driveway right away, and he had Winston out to clean not only the spots off, but my entire driveway, including my front porch. Winston was very professional, as he explained the difference in concrete between my driveway and my front porch. He also explained the reason for some bad rust stains that were there as a result of metal objects that were mixed into my driveway concrete by my builder. He did an excellent job on everything, and my driveway is now clean enough to have it coated with a light concrete paint (two coats) that I had already contracted out to have done. Caretaker Services Pressure Washing did such a good job of cleaning (about 2,200 lbs. pressure on my driveway & about 400 lbs on my front porch with a household cleaner first) that my coating contractor told me that what is left of my rust stains will all be covered over by the light colored paint. I am very pleased, as he gave me a great education along with a great cleaning job! Also, I will now use Dependable Service Plumbing & Air as my plumber for all my future plumbing needs, as they did a great job for my neighbor!” –-Bill B.
