5 Subtle Signs of a Water Leak You Shouldn’t Ignore

Water Leak

It might appear like a minor issue, but a water leak can cost you gallons of water. A water leakage is not always evident, and an occasional inspection of your pipes will help track down the source of the problem. Here are the telltale signs of plumbing leaks in your home;

Increased Water Bills

Probably, if you’re keen to track the water consumption in your home, you can reduce the possibility of being struck with high water bills. However, if after checking the water bills you discover a trend whereby the water bill has been rising for the past several months without any sufficient reason, then there’s a problem with the plumbing system.

Consistent Sounds of Flowing Water

You've confirmed that the faucets are off, and the tub is very dry, but you can still hear the hissing sounds of water as it flows. Locate the source of the sound and call a plumber before the problem escalates.

Low Water Pressure

With no explanations whatsoever, the taps seem to take ages to fill a bowl, or the shower heads drip annoyingly due to the low pressure. At times, the issue can be continuous, or it comes and goes. Although a blockage in the pipes could be a culprit, you cannot overlook a leakage in the piping.

Discolored, Wet Floor & Sagging Ceiling

If a small leakage starts to damage any part of the home, then it must have existed for months or even years. Constantly and overly wet bathroom floor, saggy and discolored ceiling, patches and growth of smelly molds on the wall should be clear indicators of a water leakage.

Meter Running When Taps are Turned Off

Frequent checking of the meter’s indicator will tell if there’s a leakage. Turn off all the faucet and monitor the meter for more than an hour. If the meter indicator keeps moving, then you have a leakage.
